Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-The Oakes Tornadoes looked like two different teams, but the latter of the two was the one that came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Carrington Cardinals 3-2 (13-25, 17-25, 25-13, 25-19, 15-8) to secure the number 2 seed in the upcoming District 5 tournament. The Cardinals could not stop the momentum the Tornadoes built after the decisive third set win. Senior outside hitter/setter Abby Cox drilled a match high 21 kills and also added 12 assists to pace the Tornado offense. Cox added a pair of service aces as well. Laikyn Rone (junior outside hitter) added 16 kills and a match high 3 service aces to help aid the victory. Sophomore setter Bethany Harris added a team high 14 assists and added a match high 3 service aces for the Tornadoes.

Carrington junior outside hitter Haley Wolsky had a team high 12 kills and senior middle hitter Sydnie Grager added 10 kills and 3 service aces. Emma Rindy, senior setter, had a match high 18 assists and also added 6 kills for the Cardinals. Allison Jarrett, junior outside hitter, and Isabel Wendel, freshmen outside hitter/setter added 5 kills each.

Oakes will host defending region 3 and state champion Linton-HMB on Thursday night and Carrington will travel to Kidder County on Thursday night for their next action. Oakes match will be aired on AM 1220 KDDR (THE TORNADO), and the Carrington match will be aired on AM 1600 KDAK (THE CARDINAL). Both matches will also be on www.newsdakota.com
