YANKTON, S.D.– A sweep of Mount Marty University made it 21 straight wins for the top-ranked University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team as the Jimmies won 25-20, 25-12, and 25-19.
The Jimmies improve their GPAC record to 10-0 and will host Doane (Neb.) University on Friday.
Mount Marty led 19-18 in the first set but Jamestown used a couple of Lancer attack errors to go ahead 20-19. Mount Marty tied the set at 20, only to have UJ take the last five points for a 1-0 match lead.
Jamestown had an easier time in the second set, using three different 4-0 runs to take a 25-12 win. UJ hit .522 in the second, making just one error on 23 attempts.
The Jimmies were on the wrong end of an 8-7 score in the third, but a 6-0 run including three kills by Jayla Ritter (JR/Forest Lake, Minn.) swung the momentum back to Jamestown, and the Lancers would get no closer than four points the rest of the way.
Ritter led UJ with 13 kills, followed by Corina Huff (SR/Pequot Lakes, Minn.) with nine. Jackie Meiklejohn (JR/Dickey, N.D.) had 19 assists and Ellie Holen (FR/LaMoure, N.D.) had 13 digs.
