Quam, 92, Breckenridge, MN, formerly of DeLamere, ND, died October 1, 2012, at the Pioneer Senior Cottages in Breckenridge, MN.
Kathryn Martinson, daughter of Charles and Helen (Nygaard) Martinson was born September 13, 1920 on the family farm near DeLamere. She attended school in DeLamere for nine years before graduating from Milnor High School. Kathryn attended Valley City State College, where she earned her teaching degree, and then taught for a few years.
On October 5, 1941, she married Garvin Quam at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They made their home and farmed in the DeLamere area, where they also raised cattle. Garvin passed away December 30, 1989. Kathryn continued to live on the farm until she became a resident of the St. Francis Living Center, Breckenridge, MN. For the last two years, she had been living at Pioneer Cottages in Breckenridge. Kathryn was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was also a lifetime member of the Women’s Legion Auxiliary in Wyndmere, ND.
She is survived by six children, Gwen (Cordell) Korup, Fargo, ND, Jeanette (Bob) Cook of Oklahoma, Kenneth Quam, DeLamere, ND, Loretta Quam, Grafton, ND, Donald Quam, Fargo, ND, and Brian (Lori) Quam, Watertown, SD. Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Garvin, a daughter Carolyn, two sons David and Bradley, a sister Gene Lien, and two brothers Homer and Jerry. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 5, 2012 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, near DeLamere, ND, with the funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
