SIOUX CENTER, Iowa– The No. 1 University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team rebounded from a sluggish first set to defeat 18th-ranked Dordt University 3-1 Friday night.

Jamestown moves to 19-0 overall and 8-0 in the GPAC while the Defenders fall to 10-6 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

Dordt led 8-3 in the first set and eventually went ahead 20-11 to force a Jimmie timeout. Kills by Aleah Zieske (FR/Spicer, Minn.) and Corina Huff (SR/Pequot Lakes, Minn.) cut the lead to seven, but the Defenders responded with back-to-back kills of their own.

In set two, Jamestown took a 9-3 lead, and after Dordt cut the lead to 11-7, Huff and Jayla Ritter (JR/Forest Lake, Minn.) kills made it a six-point advantage once again. A 4-0 run capped off by a Defender set error made it 19-9 and the Jimmies went on to tie the match.

Dordt won the first point of the third set, and 1-0 was the only time they would lead in the frame. Jamestown ran off seven of nine points to turn a 13-10 edge into a 20-12 cushion.

Set four was all Jimmies, with the visitors taking an 18-5 lead and not allowing Dordt to get within 11 points. Jamestown outhit the Defenders .229 to -.156 in the fourth, making just three errors to Dordt’s 10.

Huff led UJ with 13 kills and hit .400 for the match. Zieske and Hegerle each finished with 10 kills.

Jackie Meiklejohn (JR/Dickey, N.D.) had a double-double of 19 assists and 15 kills. Anna Holen (JR/LaMoure, N.D.) led the defense with 21 digs, while Ellie Holen (FR/LaMoure, N.D.) (19), and Hannah Schiele (JR/Jamestown, N.D.) (12) also racked up double-digit digs. Huff (3) and Ritter (2) had UJ’s five solo blocks.

The Jimmies continue their weekend road trip Saturday at Briar Cliff University with first serve set for 6:30 p.m.
