JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The #2 UJ women’s volleyball team swept Morningside (25-13, 25-17, 25-12) to improve to 16-0 overall on the year.
Jamestown made it look easy in set one, hitting .625 with 17 kills and only two errors on the attack. The Jimmies finished the match hitting .429, including a .550 attack percentage during the third set. Jayla Ritter and Kali Hegerle each posted a match-high eight kills, with Ritter putting up a remarkable .615 with no errors. Nine different Jimmies had a kill in the victory over Morningside.
Jackie Meiklejohn led Jamestown from the service line, posting four aces to increase her total on the year 22. The 22 service aces for Meiklejohn are tops on the UJ roster. Meiklejohn combined with Megan Gaffaney for 33 of the 39 assists on the evening. Gaffaney had a match-high 19 assists and also added three digs.
The Jimmies saw some of the freshmen on the roster make an impact during the third set as Logan Sherman picked up two kills on two attempts and Darriene Johnson had a block assist. Freshman Aleah Zieske, who continues to play valuable time for Jamestown, hit .455 with six total kills.
The Jimmies will play their final match of a six-match homestand on Tuesday evening when Presentation visits Harold Newman Arena. Jamestown will return to conference play on October 1st on the road at Dordt.
