FORKS (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City High School boys tennis team had its season come to a close this weekend during the EDC Tournament in Grand Forks.

Valley City’s players picked up some victories in the singles and doubles tournaments, but did not qualify for the State Tournament. Valley City ends the season with a 3-11 dual record.

During the EDC Singles Tournament, Cody Schmidt went 1-2, and Iain Horner and Dalton Ondracek both went 0-2. In the Doubles Tournament, Wyatt Reinhart and Brandon Miller teamed up to go 1-2. The team of Ricky Paulson and Dustin Miller lost a three-set match in their opener and went 0-2.

Head coach Matt Nielson says four seniors will graduate from this year’s team.

“We have four seniors leaving: Ricky Paulson, Wyatt Reinhart, Iain Horner, and Cody Schmidt,” he said. “They all played all six years of tennis and have been a part of many varsity teams. They will leave a gap that needs to be filled for next year.”
