JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A keyword when describing what the James Valley Career & Tech Center (CTC) provides for area students is opportunities.
For years, the CTC has given students an opportunity to learn and grow different skill sets and prepare them for life outside of education. Offering educational programs for students in Jamestown and Montpelier, while providing guidance for Gackle-Streeter School District, the CTC continues to expand their services.
Darby Heinert is the CTC Assistant Director for the center. He says they’re looking to expand their co-ops for even more student opportunities.
Programs the CTC specializes in include child care, marketing and management, health careers, construction technology, auto collision technology, precision machining technology, agriculture education, and aviation.
As part of their co-ops, Heinert says they have students who get to work in an environment that they’re interested in while contributing to that business or trade.
Another way the CTC is expanding their service is through plans for an extension of their building.
Heinert says the expansion will also call for renovation of some existing space, commercial kitchen, and establish a more accessible greenhouse for the agriculture trade programs.
Heinert says they even have discussions with the Jamestown Area Ambulance to provide a station and emergency medical staff at the center.
Preliminary plans for groundbreaking on the $1.3 million expansion project are set for the summer of 2022.
At this time, Heinert says they’re also seeking more co-op and sponsorship opportunities. One example is their “fast track to an RN” program.
