WEST FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) –

The entire state converged on Fargo for the West Fargo Invitational Tournament.  Valley picked up 3 points to finish 10th out of 17 teams on the day.  Grand Forks Red River and Grand Forks Central tied for first with a whopping 31 points each.  3rd was WF Sheyenne at 20 points and 4th was a tie between Fargo Davies and Minot with 11 points.

The Hi-Liners had a rough day overall at the West Fargo Invite going 5-13 on the day.  Trey Cope and Alex Rogelstad had a win at #2 doubles and Miles Taylor and Jayden Johnson had a win at #3 doubles.  Hi-Liners playing in their first varsity matches ever include Jayden Johnson (also first varsity win ever), Gavin Swenson, Yu Zheng, and Colin Hoff.

Kai Kringlie and Seth Zeltinger were the #4 seed at #1 doubles and lived up to the billing.  After making quick work of Jamestown 6-0, 6-3 in the first round, they had the very same two players from Mandan that they played on Friday in singles.  It was a back and forth match that could have gone either way.  Kai and Seth made a couple more plays to win the super tiebreaker 12-10 after being tied at 10-10 to make the semifinals.

In the semifinals, we played the #1 seed and earned a set point in the first set that was not to be.  Minot, the eventual champions, came back and won that set and the match sending us to the third place match.  In that match, we came from a set down to win the match 10-6 in the third set super tiebreaker to take 3rd place.

Seth and Kai proved they can play with any doubles team in the state.  They are scary with their serves and overheads.  In fact, I don’t think I have ever seen so many overheads in one day ever – period.  They are fun to watch!  (See attached Photo of Kai and Seth with their WF Invite Medals)

Next action for the Hi-Liners is Tuesday at home versus Fargo South at 4pm.  Head on over at 4pm to watch the doubles to include Kai and Seth at #1.
