BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (JimmiePride.com)— The University of Jamestown women’s soccer team won its third straight match to open the season Monday, defeating Governors State University 3-0.

BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED: Governors State asked questions of the Jimmie defense early on, forcing keeper Alex Nowka (JR/Anchorage, Alaska) to make three saves inside of the first ten minutes. Two other shots went wide and another high as UJ faced seven total shots over the first thirty.

Jamestown’s first shot on goal came in the 35th minute and proved successful, as Miarosa Gyllenswan (FR/Menifee, Calif.) netted her first collegiate goal to give UJ a 1-0 lead. Kamryn Fiscus (JR/Yakima, Wash.) assisted on the score.

For the second straight match, the duo of Karlie Hintze (JR/Herald, Calif.) and Briana Perry (SR/Las Vegas, Nev.) made good on a corner kick attempt. Perry’s cross found Hintze, who put home her second goal of the season in the 43rd minute to stake the Jimmies to a two-goal lead going into halftime.

As the second half began, it was UJ asking the questions of Governors State defensively, keeping the momentum of a two-goal lead rolling. Gabby Sarkis (SO/Campbelltown, Sydney, Australia) had a pair of shots on back-to-back possessions, while shots from Eve Hoppe (SO/Temecula, Calif.) and Claire Struble (SR/Murrieta, Calif.) just went high. Fiscus nearly made it 3-0 but her attempt was denied by Jaguar keeper Gaby Smola.

FInally the Jimmie offense broke through, and Cassandra Diaz (JR/Montebello, Calif.) made it three goals in three matches, taking an Eleonor Flores (JR/Montebello, Calif.) pass and beating Smola to the left hand side in 63rd minute and the lead stretched to 3-0.

Nowka made three saves in the second half for UJ’s second clean sheet of the season.

NEXT UP: The Jimmies travel to Billings, Mont., to face University of Providence on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Rocky Mountain College on Sunday at 12 p.m.
