VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The new Barnes County Correctional Center is less than a month away from opening on the east end of Valley City.

Assistant Project Manager Madison Young with Adolfson & Peterson Construction, talked about the final stages of the project.

Barnes County will begin processing jail inmates into the new facility by mid-September according to Jail Administrator Jeremy Wolff. He talked about the excitement of working in this new state-of-the-art facility.

Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin said the new correctional center will be safer for staff members and inmates.

Valley City Police Lt. Dana Rustebakke said the new facility will have a sally port, a secure, controlled entry way into the jail enclosure, a much needed safety feature for officers and incoming inmates.

Barnes County 9-1-1 supervisor Sarah Miller said dispatchers can’t wait to work in the new Public Service Answering Point area also located inside the new correctional facility.

An Open House will be held September 7th from 12pm to 3pm. Everyone is welcome to attend  a tour of the new jail.
