OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes started their football season Friday night, but their offense struggled in their 21-0 loss at home against Beulah.

The defensive line for the Miners was just too much for Oakes to handle. That and Oakes didn’t get very many opportunities to even touch the football. Beulah worked methodically and ran the ball gaining 3-5 yards almost every play with an occasional big play to wind the clock down, not allowing Oakes to make a comeback.

Beulah got the scoring started with just under five minutes left in the first quarter with a 26-yard touchdown reception by WR Kevin Gilmore to give them a 6-0 lead.

That would be the only scoring of the first half as both teams traded interceptions from Beulah’s defensive back and starting quarterback Trey Brandt and Oakes’ linebacker and starting running back David Schmitz.

Beulah got the ball to start the second half in which they used up 8:18 of game clock en route to a 2-yard touchdown run to take a 14-0 lead. Oakes proceeded to get a three-and-out and Beulah was able to waste more time before getting a touchdown with less than half of the fourth quarter left to make it 21-0.

The Oakes offense was only able to get an unofficial total of 63 yards of offense. The Tornadoes will play next week at Harvey on 1220 AM 95.9 FM The Tornado.
