CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–The Hi-Liner tennis team dominated their Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) play-in match, sweeping Wahpeton 5-0 in the 3-2 lineup in Valley City today.

Dustin Miller survived a three-set thriller at #1 singles, and the doubles teams of Wyatt Reinhart/Brandon Miller and Dalton Ondracek/Iain Horner won tough straight-set matches, while Ricky Paulson and Cody Schmidt both dominated their singles matches, dropping a combined three games.

“Going into the match, we put out the lineup that gave us a shot to win at every position.  It was amazing that everyone played their best tennis today,” said Hi-Liner head coach Matt Nielson.

“Paulson had one of the two shockers of the day,” explained Nielson.  “Dalton (Ondracek)lost to Kylar (Jawaski) in the regular season, so I believed that we woudl be in a dog fight at #2 singles.  Ricky rolled his opponent.”

“The other shocker was at #1 doubles.  After looking at the lineup, Wahpeton put their #2 and #4 players in that position, while we had our #4 and #6.  On paper, we were the underdogs,” said Nielson.  The team of Reinhart/Miller won 6-4, 7-5.

The Hi-Liners now face top-seed Grand Forks Red River in the opening match of the EDC regional Thursday.  The match will be the first organized match in Grand Forks’ new indoor tennis facility, which officially opens tomorrow.
