WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (NewsDakota.com) – The #2 University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team opened up its season on Wednesday afternoon with a pair of straight-set victories over Spring Arbor and Taylor in the Keiser Volleyball Invitational.

In match one of the day against Spring Arbor, the Jimmies hit .329 while holding the Cougars to just .011 in the sweep (25-9, 25-14, 25-16). Anna Holen was the only Jamestown attacker to register double-digit kills in the victory, recording 10. Corina Huff led the Jimmies in attack percentage during match one, recording a kill on seven of eight attempts for a .875 attack percentage.

Junior Jackie Meiklejohn finished with a double-double, racking up 17 assists and 10 digs while splitting time with Megan Gaffaney who also had 17 assists. Hannah Schiele collected 11 digs and three aces from the service line against Spring Arbor.

In match two, the Jimmies somehow found a way to hit better as a team, attacking at a .349 percentage against Taylor (25-18, 25-21, 25-14).

Holen once again led Jamestown in kills during the second match of the day with 11. She also collected 10 digs in the process, and her .417 attack percentage was the best out of the starting rotation for the Jimmies in match two, but it was two attackers off the bench who dominated at the net.

Freshman Aleah Zieske and junior Taylor Sabinash each hit above .500 for the match against the Trojans. Zieske finished with seven kills while Sabinash had six on 22 combined attempts. Ellie Holen added 12 digs and Schiele added 10 more for the Jimmies.

Jamestown is now 2-0 to start the year and will continue to play in the Keiser Volleyball Invitational tomorrow when UJ takes on IU East at 9 am and William Carey at 1 pm. You can watch both matches HERE.
