MANDAN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown High School boy’s soccer team kicked off its season on Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory over Mandan to begin WDA play.
It was an early goal from freshman Brady Harty that set the tone for the Blue Jays as Harty scored in the sixth minute of the first half off of an assist from sophomore Connor Traut. Jamestown would score again to close out the first half, this time in the 40th minute when junior Jarrett Zalumskis scored what would end up being the game winning goal for the Jays.
Mandan put pressure on the Jamestown defense in the middle of the second half, with Thomas Catalano scoring an unassisted goal to bring the Braves within one. Blue Jay goalie Jake Anderson would stay strong in net though as time expired, making three saves and giving Jamestown a victory in their opener.
The Blue Jays will jump right back into WDA play on Thursday as they travel to Bismarck to take on Legacy at 7:30 pm. Jamestown will then play its first match of the season at home on Tuesday, August 24th against Minot at 7 pm. Minot was selected to finish fourth in the WDA in the preseason poll, one spot ahead of Jamestown.
