JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office has reported the arrest of a wanted individual Tuesday.

Sheriff Chad Kaiser reports that they were contacted Tuesday morning by some beekeepers who were tending some hives and noticed a suspicious vehicle on the old farmstead.

“The suspects in the vehicle fled, but upon investigating, there was a car up on a jack,” Sheriff Kaiser stated. “It appeared the suspect was attempting to steal a catalytic converter off the old vehicle.”

While searching for the suspect, a vehicle matching the description was found. Following a brief pursuit, the suspect fled into a combined wheat field and then into a corn field near the intersection of 84th Avenue SE and 41st Street SE after 12 PM. A female was apprehended from the vehicle as the driver fled on foot. The North Dakota Highway Patrol, a bloodhound, and drone were all used to search the field, finding nothing but an article of clothing.

Tuesday evening, a resident near Central Sales who has cameras was alerted to someone walking past their home.

“We located the suspect near the home and took him into custody,” Sheriff Kaiser stated.

Daniel John Hoffer has been arrested on charges of fleeing and reckless driving. There are pending charges for the theft of catalytic converters. He’s currently booked in the Stutsman County Correctional Center.

“We’d like to thank the residents of Stutsman County for remaining diligent and assisting us in the search,” Sheriff Kaiser added.
