VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Close to 300 residents of Valley City sat together at a table Thursday evening that stretched along Central Avenue in downtown Valley City to share a meal and discuss the strengths and challenges in the community.
VC Longest Table was organized by the Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation. Director Andrea Nelson says that the conversations focused on what is great about Valley City, but primarily what can be improved.
While the event was just one night, Nelson says she hopes the discussions held inspire people to go and do something with the ideas and put them into motion. The Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation has set up micro-grants for those who want to turn plans into action.
Information and application for the micro-grants of up to $3,000 can be found online by clicking here.
Nelson said that while the Foundation is organizing the event, the idea of it came from the Grand Forks Community Foundation when Grand Forks organized a Longest Table event. While future may be held, Nelson noted that following the event in Grand Forks, the public asked for more events like it to keep conversations moving.
