CARRINGTON, N.D. (RRVWSP) – The 2021 construction season is well underway.
Crews are working on three major features of the Red River Valley Water Supply Project (RRVWSP), which will convey treated water from the Missouri River from central North Dakota east to the Red River Valley. When complete, the pipeline will begin at the Missouri River near Washburn and continue along Highway 200 to the Sheyenne River.
The 72-inch pipe will have the capacity to convey water at 165 cubic feet per second (cfs) during peak demands.
The initial pipeline construction involves the installation of 1.2 miles of 72-inch pipe about one mile south of Carrington on the west side of U.S. Highway 52/281 and the Red River Valley & Western Railroad. In mid-May, Garney Construction began stripping topsoil in preparation of open-cut pipeline work.
Pipeline construction began in July and is expected to be completed by late October this year.
Industrial Builders, Inc. began construction on the RRVWSP discharge structure in early May. The discharge structure is located six miles south of Cooperstown, near the Sheyenne River.
In December 2020, ICS, Inc. began work on the Missouri River intake wet well approximately four miles south of Washburn.
Garrison Diversion and LAWA plan to hold a groundbreaking event today at the construction site southeast of Carrington.
