In Saturday’s morning game of the 2021 State Class B Legion tournament, a win or go home affair, Garrison outlasted Renville County 7-5. Devon Crawford would take the mound for Garrison. Crawford went five-and-two-thirds innings allowing nine hits and striking out seven. He left with the game tied at four, and Gage Gehring would get the final out in the sixth. Garrison would plate three runs in the bottom of the sixth. A rally by Renville County would force another pitching change, as Bennet Kamp came in with one out in the seventh and the score 7-5 Garrison. Kamp would get one strikeout, and induce a ground ball put out third to first to end the game. Renville County’s Braxton Fitzsimmons would be solid through his five-and-two-thirds innings pitched. He reached the max 135 pitches at that point. He scattered five hits, although they were timely enough for Garrison to do enough damage. Clay Bendickson led Garrison going 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Four players had two hits apiece for Renville County. Jalyn Derr, Brock Depute, Walker Braaten, and Joe Savelkoul. Garrison advanced to the 7:00 p.m. Saturday game against Langdon.

Game two of the day was another exciting win or go home game. Langdon and Carrington squared off at 1pm. Langdon went up 1-0 in the bottom of the second on a Brennan Kitchin RBI double. Carrington would plate two runs in the top of the third, when a deep fly ball to center off the bat of Hudson Schmitz glanced off of the center fielders glove. Langdon’s Brady Regner tied the game at two in the bottom of the third with an RBI single to left. Carrington would take the lead when Grady Shipman scored. An exciting bottom of the seventh for Langdon put them ahead for good, as a two-out two-run single by Tucker Walsh would give Langdon the 4-3 lead.
Gage Goodman for Langdon was consistent and strong through 6 innings to get the win. He scattered six Carrington hits, and struck out three in those six innings. Markus Kingzett pitched a solid one-two-three top of the seventh, as be retired the top of the order on his way to a save. Carrington’s Ethan Buskness was pretty solid himself on the mound for Carrington. He allowed just seven hits and struck out six. Grady Shipman was 2-4 for Carrington. Brady Regner and Mason Romfo each had two hits for Langdon. They went on to square off with Garrison in the 7:00 p.m. game.

The third game of the day was not as close. LaMoure got off to a quick 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first and didn’t look back. It all started with a two-run home run from centerfielder Jace Hansen and it quickly snowballed. After one more run in the second inning, they proceeded to put up a ten-spot in the fourth inning to cut the game short as they finished after five innings. Hansen finished the day with three RBI as he was drilled in the back with bases loaded in the fourth inning. Shortstop Corban Potts was 2-3 with three runs including an RBI double. Starting pitcher Landon Piehl went four innings and struck out four batters while allowing just three baserunners with two singles and one walk allowed and no runs. He also was 2-2 at the plate as well. Third baseman Anthony Hansen went 2-2 with two runs and an RBI single. Left-fielder James Sandness went 2-4 with two runs and a two-RBI double and an RBI single. Second baseman Rory Gentzkow also finished with three RBI with a two-run double and an RBI single. As for Oakes they were able to get their only two runs after the game was already well out of reach. It came from a two-RBI single from pinch hitter Chase Lindberg to drive home Michael Iverson who singled and Gaven Christiansen who was hit by a pitch. LaMoure will play tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. against an opponent to be determined in the state championship game. Oakes will play tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. against Langdon.

Langdon got out to a quick start with a four-run second inning with a two-RBI single from third baseman Jack Romfo. They added two more runs with an RBI walk from left-fielder Tucker Welsh and a sac fly from catcher Carter Tetrault. Garrison retaliated with an RBI single from catcher Gunner Jacobs, but it wouldn’t be enough as Langdon added five more in the fourth with a two-RBI single from Tetrault, a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded by second baseman Brady Regner, a sac fly from right-fielder Gage Goodman and Welsh scoring on an error. With a 9-1 lead, Langdon was able to grind out the final three innings giving up two runs in the seventh and adding two of their own in the sixth to win the game 11-3. Starting pitcher Jackson Delvo was the player of the game with three earned runs, six hits and two walks while striking out zero batters. Langdon will take on Oakes at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow for the right to play LaMoure in the championship game at 4:00 p.m.
