JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Dollars for Scholars announced a newly endowed scholarship that will be awarded annually to a Jamestown North or Jamestown High School senior.

The US Army Specialist Paul A Beyer Memorial Scholarship will award $1,000 to a student who has attended the James Valley Career and Technology Center and plans to pursue a vocational post-secondary education.

The local chapter was presented a $20,000 check from the Scott Beyer Family on June 11, 2021.

Jill Beyer, the mother of Paul Beyer stated, “We are very proud of our son’s service to our country and pleased to honor his memory by endowing a scholarship which will benefit graduating seniors for years to come.”

Paul attended Gussner Elementary School and graduated from Jamestown High School in 2003. He enlisted in the United States Army and graduated from basic training in July 2005. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. He was deployed to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom Iraq in October 2005 and was serving near Baghdad, Iraq at the time of his death, June 23, 2006.

Accepting the scholarship on behalf of Jamestown Dollars for Scholars was DeAnn Ament, chapter vice-president.

She shared, “We are grateful for this generous gift from the Scott Beyer Family. Endowing a scholarship provides a lasting tribute to their beloved son and brother and assists future high school graduates with their post-secondary education expenses.”
