CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Carrington Fire Department is making plans to show the film “SILO”, which is inspired by true events.
The film follows a harrowing day in an American farm town. Disaster strikes when a teenager becomes entrapped in a 50-foot-tall grain bin. Carrington Fire Chief Ken Wangen says originally, they had planned to show the film in 2020, but that was put on hold due to COVID-19.
“There has been several of these types of incidents in the region and we need to get awareness out there,” Chief Wangen stated.
Foster County Farm Bureau, Nodak Insurance Chris Bichler Agency, NDSU Ag Extension and the Carrington Fire Department have teamed up to show the movie “Silo” on July 21st & 22nd at the Youth Center Theater.
“Silo” was created to “help further the dialogue between rural audiences and those outside of agriculture about the emotional, physical and psychological costs of feeding the world.”
“We have assembled a series of exclusive conversations with members of the SILO team, who reflect on how real-life issues influenced the making of the film,” their website states. “SILO is the product of an extensive collaboration between city-based filmmakers and the rural American community.
The doors will open at 6:30 PM both nights for a presentation and the movie will start at 7:30 PM.
“We will have a presentation set up showing the dangers of grain entrapment/engulfment and the equipment need to remove somebody from a bin after being entrapped,” Chief Wangen added.
There will be a second showing if there’s interest due to the size of the theatre. Admission and concessions will be free courtesy of Foster County Farm Bureau and Nodak Insurance Chris Bichler Agency.
