JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Post 14 Eagles mounted a comeback during game one and relied on the left arm of Connor Hoyt in game two to sweep the Mandan Post 40 A’s 7-6 and 6-0.
Three errors over the course of the first two innings defensively allowed Mandan to quickly jump ahead 5-0 going into the third inning. Jamestown got its first hit of the day in the bottom of the third when Gage Orr doubled into left center. After Orr was moved over to third and Isaac Mimong reached base on a fielder’s choice, Jacoby Nold delivered two RBIs on a single to put the Eagles on the scoreboard.
Nold stifled the bats of the A’s in the fourth and then Jamestown went on to score four runs in the bottom of the inning off of three Mandan errors and just one hit. Payton Hochhalter, Michael Mahoney, Orr, and Mason Lunzman all scored unearned runs for the Eagles to put Jamestown ahead 6-5.
The Eagles tacked on an insurance run in the sixth when Nold collected his third RBI of game one on a sac fly that scored Lunzman. Jamestown would end up needing that extra run as Mandan scored once in the seventh and had the bases loaded with just one out, but Hochhalter was able to earn the save by getting the final two A’s batters to pop out to secure a game one win.
Nold earned the victory on the hill, going six innings while allowing striking out three and allowing four hits. Hochhalter picked up the save, giving up one earned run and picking up a strikeout. Nold led Jamestown at the plate with a 1-for-2 performance and three runs driven in, and Jackson Walters was the only Eagle to record two hits, going 2-for-4 with two singles.
Hoyt took the mound in game two and dominated from the start, tossing all complete game shutout. The southpaw struck out six, walking just one and allowing six hits. As a team, Jamestown posted 10 hits during game two, scoring a run in the first, third, and fifth before tacking on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Post 14 (11-6, 10-0) will once again make a quick turnaround as they face Watford City in a conference doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 2 pm at Jack Brown Stadium.
