Lanie Awender was named the ND High School Coaches Association and Powerade Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year for her outstanding high school career in the sport of Track and Field.
Their achievement will be forever enshrined on the Oakes High School Championship sign located at Cummings Field in Oakes. The sign was put in place back in 2011 and was the idea of two lifelong members of Oakes. Chet and Jean Setterlund are two proud supporters of Oakes athletics. Chet always wanted to show off the accomplishments of all the Oakes athletic teams in a unique way so the public can appreciate them as well. So about ten years go Chet’s family had the sign commissioned in his and his wife Jean’s memory and hung at Cummings Field.
