VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Historical Society and “What in the World is Going On” sponsored a play called “PERSISTENCE” in Valley City on June 17th. It is the story about how North Dakota women fought for 52 years to get the North Dakota Legislature to pass a measure to allow women to vote before the passage of the 19th Amendment.
One of the key figures in the fight was Elizabeth Preston Anderson of Valley City and Tower City, North Dakota.
The play “PERSISTENCE” was performed for over 80 people in the Hi Liner Activity Center on June 17th. Before the play the cast surrounded the historical marker that was placed on the Barnes County courthouse grounds back in the summer of 2020 to honor suffragist Elizabeth Preston Anderson who was featured in the play for her work in helping women in North Dakota get the vote.
