WASHINGTON, D.C. (NAFB) – A top U.S. ag Senator is hinting at an effort to stop a Biden EPA bid to restore the Obama-era Waters of the U.S. rule or something similar, resulting in sweeping regulation of farmland.

Staunch opponent of the 2015 Obama WOTUS rule, Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley says he’s waiting for more details, but if the Biden EPA moves to replace the Trump Navigable Waters Protection rule with another Obama-style WOTUS rule.

Until the water clears on a new rule, Grassley won’t say if he would have voted against Michael Regan for EPA chief, earlier. But Grassley says the Biden Administration needs to do more to help the two percent of the country that feeds the rest.

But USDA Secretary Vilsack argues he is helping producers hurt by the pandemic, despite a slow roll-out of aid.

Tuesday’s announcement includes 700-million dollars in CFAP aid for biofuel producers, 980 million total for dairy donations and Supplemental Dairy Margin Coverage, help for livestock producers forced to euthanize animals, and 700-million in PPE grants for meat packers, specialty growers, and the seafood industry.
