VALLEY CITY, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – After finishing in fifth place at the Class A state singles tournament in Grand Fork on June 5th, Jamestown’s Phoebe Olson was named to the NDHSCA Class A Girls’ Tennis All-State Team yesterday.

Olson, a junior, went 11-3 in singles during the regular season, including a third place finish at the Sheyenne Invite back on May 15th. Olson would also take third in the WDA tournament, earning her a spot at state for the 2021 season.

Olson began the state tournament with a victory over West Fargo Sheyenne’s Alyssa Sommfeld, 6-4 and 6-1. Olson then fell in the quarterfinals to Paige McCormick of Fargo Davies who ended up finishing third overall in the state tournament. Olson would win her final three matches in consolation play to claim fifth place, defeating Marissa Burian of Davies 6-2 and 7-5.

As a team, the Blue Jays went 3-13 on the year with an 0-8 record in the WDA. Olson was the only Jamestown player to qualify for the state tournament.
