Valley City’s Hailey Schaefer had a remarkable season as their go-to pitcher as well as a more-than-reliable bat just one year removed from tearing her ACL. Schaefer earned the honor of  NDHSCA Powerade Outstanding Senior Athlete after their final game on June 5th. This morning it was announced that she made the Class A All-State Softball Team as well.

Schaefer finished the season with 50 hits in 90 at-bats for an absurd batting average of .556 with 9 HR, 43 RBI, and just two strikeouts. In the postseason, she was 9-18 with five RBI and a home run in the quarterfinal round of the EDC Tournament vs. Fargo South.

In the circle, she pitched 125-and-two-thirds innings with an ERA of just 3.29 with a ridiculous 195 strikeouts with just 24 walks allowed. She struck out 8.1 batters for every walk she gave up this past season. In the six postseason games Schaefer started, she struck out 54 batters and allowed just 16 ER along with a WHIP of just 1.16.

Schaefer also started the first game of the All-Star Series. She will continue her softball career at the University of Jamestown next season.
