MINOT, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – An eleven run first inning burst by Jamestown was all the Blue Jays needed on Saturday afternoon as Jamestown defeated Mandan 15-1 to advance to the state tournament for the first time since 2016.
The offense woke up early on Saturday for Jamestown as the Jays hit two home runs in the first inning to take a dominant 11-0 lead into the second. Senior Ella Roaldson had her second home run of the WDA tournament, a three run blast over the left field fence. Junior Jenna Fischer also picked up her second homer in as many days with a two run shot into left.
Jamestown would be held in check until the bottom of the third when sophomore Katie Falk hammered a three run homer down the line in left to put the Jays ahead 15-1. Roaldson, Fischer, and Falk were named All-WDA for the 2021 season.
McKenna Jackson, Alyssa Gange, and Roaldson all finished the day 1-for-2. Jackson doubled and scored two times while also walking twice, and Gange walked twice, had a single, and cleared the bases on a fly ball to left that ended up being an error on Mandan. Addi Douty finished the day 1-for-1 with an RBI and two walks. Jamestown put up their fifteen runs on just nine hits and only left four runners on base.
Falk threw a complete game in the circle for Jamestown, striking out five while only allowing three total Mandan hits. Jamestown committed just one error defensively and the win for Falk was her second in the WDA tournament.
The Jays are the four-seed in the west and will play Valley City, who won the EDC Tournament by defeating West Fargo 9-5. They will square off in Mandan at the Class A Softball Tournament in Mandan at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
