BISMARCK, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – Senior Meghan Ford won the 1600 meter run for her third straight state title and junior Annie Nabwe broke the Jamestown outdoor discus record and won a state title as the Jays competed in the Class A State meet in Bismarck on Friday.
Ford excelled once again on the track, running a 5:02.34 en route to her third state title in the 1600 meter run. Ford’s time was nearly seven seconds better than Jilee Golus of Bismarck High who finished second in the meet.
Nabwe claimed first place in the discus with a distance of 143′ 9″, breaking the old school record of Nicole Nelson which was set in 1996. Nabwe will compete in the shot put and 100 meter race at the state tournament tomorrow to try and claim two more state titles.
Junior Hunter Peterson took third place in the high jump with a height of 5’1″. As a team, the Blue Jay girls are currently in second place with a score of 26, just two points behind Bismarck Century for first.
Thomas Allmer of the Jamestown boys track and field team took second in the discus with a distance of 157′ 9″, the best performance for Jays boys team on day one. Ben Anteau placed 6th in the 1600 meter race, and Devin Beach took 8th in the triple jump.
The 4×100 team of Levi Korum, Devin Beach, Preston Kroeber, and Brode Hillstrom qualified for the state meet while setting a new outdoor school record with a time of 43.97 seconds. They.broke a record that went back to 1970 that was set by Dane Banning, Doug Kleist, Doug Gushwa, and Paul Berge.
The second day of the state track meet from the Bowl in Bismarck begins at 9 am on Saturday. Many Blue Jay athletes with be competing for state titles, and you can follow the full event HERE.
