VALLEY CITY, ND (newsdakota.com) – Valley City had quite the spring season in their athletics, and now their athletes are gearing up for their state tournaments.
The girls’ tennis team went 2-1 in their matches in the EDC tournament and qualified for state. They defeated Fargo North 3-2 in an upset and also defeated Grand Forks Red River to qualify for the state tournament which will begin next Thursday in Grand Forks. They will square off the western conference’s #1 seed Mandan in the quarterfinal round at 10 a.m.
19 athletes on the Track & Field will compete in the state tournament in Bismarck. The competition starts today at 8:45 a.m and will continue through tomorrow until 6 p.m.
The softball team just needs to win one of two final games to reach the state tournament. They play in the semifinal round of the EDC tournament today at 5 p.m. vs. West Fargo Sheyenne. Senior All-Star Hailey Schaefer will be on the bump. She has an impressive ERA of 2.95 with 153 strikeouts and only 16 walks. At the plate, she’s batting a staggering .587 with 9 home-runs and 41 RBI.
