JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public Works Committee has given the go-ahead to replace city watermain and the University of Jamestown’s cast iron service line.
The line at 3rd Street NE and 9th Avenue NE will be replaced and funded by the owner with cost of excavation and replacement of curb, gutter, and asphalt to be shared equally by the City and University.
Jamestown Water Department Superintendent Joe Rowell says they would use funds from the Water Utility Fund for the cost-share. He says they would hope to have the project done in two to three weeks.
Rowell says an 8 inch watermain that ran up 3rd Street between 9th and 10th Avenue. It was eliminated up top, leaving an abandoned line they want to remove to avoid stagnated water.
The request was moved for approval by the city council unanimously.
Darrell Hournbuckle later approached the committee with the latest information regarding the Industrial Wastewater Pretreatment Program.
Hournbuckle says more than 600 surveys were sent out to commercial entities asking about practices regarding use of the wastewater system in Jamestown.
Hournbuckle added EPA regulations and draft ordinances have been submitted, pointing out changes to the sewer ordinance would be the first since 1982.\
