JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown Public School Superintendent Dr. Rob Lech thanked the board for their work during the pandemic and dealing with tough decisions in the past year.

During the Monday school board meeting, Dr. Lech took time to recognize the board’s work regarding the Health and Safety plan for the district.

The Jamestown Public School Board earlier this month moved to drop the Contact Tracing in the school on May 10th and the mask requirement on May 17th. Dr. Lech added that being able to discuss these topics in the manner the board did should be commended.

With that, Dr. Lech says the board should prepare to discuss the Health and Safety Plan beyond June 30th sometime in the future.

In other school news, Food Service Director Joe Oster provided an update on the 2020-2021 school year for students. He says he was surprised that with free lunch being offered, the amount of students who ate school lunch was relatively low.

Oster says the free meals really helped their program recover financially and says they’re in a better spot to move into the new year.

Oster says they’ll begin to explore ways to streamline their kitchens in the school district as he settles into his role.

The LifeSmarts Team was also recognized for winning the 2020 National Competition earlier this year and Stutsman County Teacher of the Year Mrs. Kelly Bauer was recognized for her award. She will now be in the running for North Dakota Teacher of the Year.
