JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Blue Jay softball team lost a pair of non-conference games on Monday evening, losing 7-1 and 11-10 to West Fargo in the final game of the season at Trapper Field.
Game one saw Jamestown fall behind early as West Fargo scored three runs in the first inning off of four total hits. The Packers would add two more in each of the second and third innings, and led 7-0. Jamestown’s lone run in the first game came during the bottom of the third after senior McKenna Jackson singled with one down in the frame. Jackson scored moved to second on a groundout, and Alyssa Gange provided an RBI single to make the game 7-1.
Jamestown was led by Gracie Gunderson who went 2-for-3 with a double, and four other Jays had a hit in game one. Payton Gall went all seven innings in the circle, striking out four and allowing seven runs, five were earned. Jamestown committed three errors.
The offense would pick up in game two against the Packers, but it wasn’t enough as West Fargo outlasted Jamestown 11-10. The Jays were trailing 11-5 entering the bottom of the seventh and came up just short of a comeback victory at home. In four games this season, the Jays and Packers each picked up two wins, with both teams sweeping doubleheaders on the road.
Jamestown honored its nine seniors, including Rachel Schiele in between games. Schiele got the start in game one in left field only three months after ACL surgery. Schiele exited the game after the first pitch but still got to take the field on senior night.
The Blue Jays are now 18-7 on the season and will wrap up the regular season tomorrow when they travel to Dickinson. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 pm, and Jamestown is guaranteed to finish in the top four in the WDA no matter the result on Tuesday.
