OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes scored 13 runs in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back on the way to a 15-4 win over Enderlin/Maple Valley in high school baseball Thursday night at Cummings Field.
Twelve batters reached base and nine runs scored before an out was recorded. Gaven Christianson started the scoring with an rbi single that scored Jaidy Gebhardt. Brogen Roney was hit by a pich with the bases loaded to score Steele Hanson. Fletcher Willprecht singled in Bryley Haberman to tie the game at 3. The Tornadoes took the lead for good on Garrett Meehl’s bunt single to score Christianson to make it 4-3. Connor Schall scored Roney with a single for the fifth run of the inning. After Willprecht scored on an error, Meehl came in on a bases loaded walk to Gebhardt. Hansen singled to right to score Schall. Haberman singled to left to score Howie Neustal to make it 9-3.
After Gebhardt scored on an error, Christianson fouled out to the catcher Anthony Wendel for the first out of the inning. Roney doubled in Hanson with the eleventh run of the inning. Haberman came in on a balk and Roney came in on a wild pitch to end the scoring. The Tonadoes went through the order twice, had nine hits drew four walks and had two batters hit by pitch.
Enderlin/Maple Valley scored three in the top of the inning, all with two out, to take the early lead at 3-0. Andrew Mickelson started the scoring with a single to score Caden Amerman with the first run of the game. Kaden Mark made it 2-0 with a single that brought in Brenan Batholomy. On the play, Ty Combs came in to score when Meehl made an errant throw.
Andrew Wendel scored on a wild pitch in the top of the third to make 13-4 Oakes. But the Tornadoes would two more in the bottom of the inning when Steele Hanson and Gaven Christianson scored on wild pitches.
Steele Hanson led Oakes by going 3 for 3 with three runs scored and an rbi. Bryley Haberman was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and an rbi. Six other Tornadoes had at least one hit. Brogan Roney scored twice and drove in two. All nine starters scored for Oakes and eight diifferent players drove in runs.
Anthony Wendel led Enderlin/Maple Valley going 2 for 3 with a run. Six other players had hits for the Falcons while Kaden Mark and Andrew Mickelson had an rbi each.
Oakes, now 6-3 on the year, will travel to LaMoure on Tuesday for a matchup with the Loboes while the Falcons will take a 0-11 mark into Cassleton for a game with Central Cass on Tuesday.
