(NewsDakota.com) – Members of the National Farmer’s Union are in Washington, D.C. this week going office to office of every congress member lobbying for passage of a new Farm Bill.
The current Farm Bill expires Sept. 30. More than 200 Farmers Union members are in D.C. for the annual Fall Fly-In, including many from North Dakota. One of those people currently in D.C. is Jamestown High School senior Cole Musland, who is a member of the Farmers Union National Youth Advisory Council.
Musland says response has been mixed from the face-to-face meetings with congress members. The Senate has passed a version of the Farm Bill. The House has not put a version on the floor for a vote.
Musland says his involvement with Farmers Union started at a young age with camps, and has since grown into a spot on the Youth Advisory Council.
A large rally is planned for Wednesday on Capitol Hill in which more than 50 farm organizations are expected to participate in as they hope to put pressure on the House to pass a version of the bill.
