(NewsDakota.com) – Burning is banned statewide today as a Red Flag Warning in in effect for all of North Dakota and much of the mid-western United States.
Locally, the Red Flag Warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. due to strong winds and projected low humidity.
In the Jamestown area, winds are projected to be 20 to 30 miles per hour from the northwest, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour possible. Temperatures are forecast to reach the upper 70’s Tuesday.
The entire state of North Dakota is in the “very high” category on the National Weather Service’s Fire Danger Index. Last week, Governor Jack Dalrymple declared a statewide rural fire emergency, which bans burning when the Fire Danger Index is in the “very high” or “extreme” categories.
All of South Dakota is also in a Red Flag Warning today, along with most of Montana and Nebraska, and large parts of Minnesota, Iowa and Kansas.
