WISHEK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Junior Lucas Hendrickson hit a bases clearing three-RBI triple to the gap in left-center field in the top of the fifth inning to help the Cardinals of Carrington defeat the Mustangs of South Border Thursday night 14-8 in Region 3 play. Carrington improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the region. SB drops to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the region, the Mustangs are playing their very first year as a High School Varsity Baseball team.

The Mustangs got things started early when lead-off batter Trent Finck hit a solo home run to right field on the first pitch of the home half of the first inning, making the score 1-0. The Cardinals came back and scored six runs in the top of the second and never looked back. Austin Trelstad hit two singles and scored twice for Carrington. Freshman Grady Shipman picked up the win on the mound, working four innings, three earned runs, four strikeouts, three hits and four walks. Marshall Lindgren suffered the loss, working four innings, six runs, two earned. Lindgren at the plate hit three singles, two runs knocked in and scored once.

Next up for Carrington will be Monday in Tolna to take on fellow Region 3 team the Mustangs of Midkota/Dakota Prairie/Lakota/Griggs County Central, KDAK will have the contest starting about 3:50pm pregame, 4pm first pitch.
