JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown High School Drama Department placed first in the Class A One-Acts in Devils Lake Monday.

The Jamestown High School team performed Alan Haehnel’s comedy “A Simple Task.” The cast and crew include Ian Weis, Rebecca Krieger, Zoe Bennett, Olivia Schriock, Emma Wiley, Anja McDermid, Logan-Ross Motter, Dominique Scobee, Daniel Nyland, Ray Jasmann, Haylee Spurgeon and Isaac Hasbargen.

“This comedy deals with the character of Empie on her first day at a new job,” Director Tony McIntyre stated. “She’s assigned with what she thinks will be an easy assignment, but she quickly learns otherwise as several characters prove to be greater obstacles in the process. On top of that, she’s unable to get a clear read on just who her boss is.”

Zoe Bennett was named outstanding actor for her performance as Empie, and Ian Weis was also awarded for his portrayals of Ralph, Guard #1, and Lover.

“In 2013, the NDHSAA Class A One-Act Play Festival shifted to a Contest format. This is the first time since that change that JHS has been crowned the champion,” McIntyre added.

McIntyre added that this year’s competition looked different than prior years, but they were able to perform for judges and a limited number of spectators.

“Additionally, the time limit of 40 minutes was cut down to 30 minutes and the individual events that are usually held at the competition weren’t this year in an effort to limit crossover and transmission between schools,” McIntyre explained.
