JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown softball team opened up WDA play with an emphatic statement on Friday night as the Blue Jays topped Williston 12-2 and 31-1.
Game one was close throughout as Jamestown held in 5-2 advantage going into the bottom of the fifth. In the fifth inning, the Blue Jays piled on seven runs to 10 run rule the Coyotes. Junior Alyssa Gange brought in two runs with a triple and the Jays capped off game one with a Jenna Fisher two-run blast.
Katie Falk earned the win in the circle, throwing a complete game while allowing five hits and striking out seven total Williston batters. Addi Douty and Marin Rasmussen each went 1-2 in the first game, and Ella Roaldson scored three times and had a double.
Jamestown rode the scoring wave from the end of game one into the second game, as the Jays poured on 15 first inning runs, sending 20 batters to the plate. The scoring continued in the second as Jamestown hit around again to plate seven more runs. If you include the final inning of game one and the first two innings of game two, the Jays put up 29 runs over the course of three innings.
Makenna Jackson brought in three runners in the fourth inning of game two when she doubled to extend the Jamestown lead even more. Katie Trumbauer picked up five RBIs and scored three different times in game two. In total, Jamestown recorded 21 hits and walked on 12 different occasions.
Payton Gall got her first win in complete game fashion while also striking out seven Williston hitters. Gall allowed just two hits on the evening and her only run allowed came in the first inning.
The Blue Jays improved to 2-2 on the year and are 2-0 to start the WDA season. Jamestown will return to the diamond next Thursday when they travel to Valley City. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30.
