JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown’s baseball and softball teams were in action this weekend and the Jimmies showed dominance on the field to sweep Northwestern in baseball and College of Saint Mary in softball.
BASEBALL: G1: UJ 7, Northwestern 3 | G2: UJ 7, Northwestern 0
Jamestown improved to 18-10 on the season and 5-3 in conference play this weekend behind solid pitching performances in both games. The Jimmies had to use extra innings to get past Northwestern in game one, and in the eighth, Jamestown took the lead for good on a wild pitch to score Brian Rice. UJ picked up three more runs in the frame behind a two-RBI double from Chase Hacker to cement the Jimmies lead.
Senior Aaron Pugh earned the victory in game one on the bump for Jamestown to improve to 1-2 overall this season. Pugh pitched an inning and a third in relief and recorded one strikeout. Starter Payson Mills completed four and two-thirds while giving up six hits and allowing just one earned run.
In game two, Kendall Yackley, who homered in the first game, allowed just three hits and struck out eight Red Raider batters as the Jimmies got a shutout win over Northwestern. Senior Brice Foster had three runs driven in and as did senior Grant Okawa as Jamestown won their fifth consecutive game. The Jimmies have now won six straight against the Red Raiders dating back to 2019. Jamestown’s next game will be played this Thursday at 2 pm against Briar Cliff for the first home game of the season.

Another day, another dominant performance from Jamestown’s Kat Miska in the circle as the junior struck out 15 flames hitters on Saturday to lead the Jimmies to a 10-2 victory in game one of the doubleheader. Miska moved to 10-1 on the year on the mound and still has an ERA under 1.00 this season.
UJ picked up four runs in each of the first two innings in game one and totaled 11 hits to knock out College of Saint Mary before the game even got going. Mariah Wick scored three runs and had three stolen bags while hitting a perfect 3-for-3 in game one. Kassi Ward was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs driven in.
Jamestown rolled its momentum from game one into the second game of the doubleheader to down the Flames 12-4 and sweep the doubleheader. The Jimmies have now won all nine games they’ve played against College of Saint Mary going back to 2010.
Morgan Geiszler hit her fifth home run of the year while going 3-for-5 and driving in three runs. Katie Merchant tossed another gem in the circle to improve to 8-3 on the season and UJ now sits with a 21-7 record and 4-2 in the GPAC. Jamestown will travel to Valley City State on Wednesday for a midweek doubleheader against their former NSAA foe.
