DICKINSON, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – The Valley City State volleyball team dropped three sets to Dickinson State Tuesday night, 25-17, 25-11, 25-22.

The Blue Hawks tallied 32 kills on a .239 hitting percentage and tallied 10 service aces in the three-set victory over the Vikings.

Valley City State drops to 4-18 overall this season and 3-10 in the North Star. Dickinson State improves to 7-9 overall and 6-8 in the NSAA.

Katie Juarez led the Viking attack with 10 kills while Bailey Nelson added six, and Maara Nelson and Macey Kvilvang each contributed five. Maara Nelson also added a team-high 13 digs Tuesday.

Jakenda Short finished with 12 set assists and Kallene Klever added 11 assists for the Vikings.

Dickinson State took a seven-point rally midway through the first set to lead by as much as 10 points en route to a 25-17 first set victory. The Blue Hawks then hit .350 in the second set to down the Vikings 25-11.

Valley City State kept up with Dickinson State in the third set, maintaining 11 ties down the stretch. The Vikings held a 21-19 lead on a solo block from Caitlyn Fischbach. Dickinson State then scored the next two points to hold another tie, but a Blue Hawk service error gave the Vikings a 22-21 advantage. Dickinson State finished with its largest run of the third set, scoring four straight points to take the final set 25-22.

Dickinson State’s Mackenna Johnson finished with 13 kills and 10 digs to lead the Blue Hawks while Baylie Dashner added 10 kills. Karlie Cleveland totaled 27 set assists, eight digs and five service aces for Dickinson State.
