CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The first phase of the Valley flood buyout is coming to a close.
City Attorney Russ Myhre says 25 of 29 targeted properties have reached an agreement with the city. Myhre hopes to have the first phase wrapped up over the next 30 days.
The city commission discussed plans to move forward into the next buyout phase.
Commissioners Madeline Luke and Matt Pederson said one proposal is to negotiate the difference between an independent appraisal and the standard of accepting 110 percent of the city assessed value of a home or property.
Pederson says the proposed change would allow the city more flexibility to maximize funds in future buyout properties.
