MOORHEAD, MN (NewsDakota.com) – Moorhead, MN Police announced today that a 6 year old boy died from a gunshot wound Sunday night from a handgun. Authorities say several children were left unattended in an apartment when the incident happened.

On the evening of Sunday, March 21, 2021, several unsupervised children located a handgun inside an apartment in 400 block of Sunrise Circle in Moorhead. A 6-year-old boy received a gunshot wound from the handgun. A 911 medical assist call came in, and arriving officers located the victim inside the apartment.
The immediate family has been notified, and the remaining juveniles that were present are safe. Currently, this is still a very active investigation. The gun was recovered inside the apartment, and the MN Bureau of Criminal Investigations has completed processing the scene.
At the completion of this investigation, all reports will be forwarded to the Clay County Attorney’s Office to review and consider any applicable criminal charges.
The Moorhead Police Department was assisted by the Moorhead Fire Department, FM Ambulance, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
