JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown had a busy sports weekend with softball, baseball, and men’s volleyball all in action.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL: UJ 3, Morningside 0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-10).

The #5 ranked Jamestown men’s volleyball team picked up its 10th consecutive victory on Saturday defeating the Mustangs in straight sets. The Jimmies completed the weekend sweep of Morningside and improved to 14-2 and 5-0 in conference play.

A dominant showing on offense, Jamestown hit .440 on the day behind 11 kills from freshman Tanner Woods. Off the bench, Patrick Magadia had eight kills while hitting above .580 in the match. Zack Meyer also collected eight kills and Samuel Jackman led the Jimmies to a set one victory on four kills.

The Jimmies continue the GPAC season on March 25th and 25th at Dordt to round out the regular season. The conference tournament begins on April 9th with the semifinals, and the championship game will take place on April 10th.

The Jimmies softball team split its four conference games this weekend with Mount Marty and Northwestern to move to 17-7 on the year and 2-2 in conference play.

In game one against Northwestern, the Jimmies scored seven runs in the first two innings of the game to knock out the Red Raiders early. Kat Miska went all seven innings for Jamestown while striking out six Northwestern hitters. UJ fell in game two when the Red Raiders scored four runs in the first two innings and held a lead throughout the entire game.

On Sunday, Mount Marty split the doubleheader with Jamestown after the Lancers put up eight runs in the fifth inning of the first game. The two teams combined for 35 hits in the first game of play and Steph Cota of Jamestown recorded three hits in four plate appearances while scoring twice.

The Jimmies bounced back in game two behind another stellar performance in the circle from Miska. The Minnesota junior improved to 8-1 on the season with an ERA of .83. Miska struck out seven in the win for UJ.

Sunday – G1: Hastings 5, UJ 2. G2: Hastings 10, UJ 5.

Jamestown dropped three out of four games over the weekend to open up GPAC play. The Jimmies picked up an opening game victory with an extra-inning win over the Broncos. Hastings bounced back in game two with a walk-off win in the seventh.

As a team, the Jimmies record four triples on day two against Hastings but were unable to provide enough offense to win game one and struggled to slow down the bats of the Broncos in the second game of the doubleheader. Jamestown moved to 13-10 on the year and 1-3 in conference play
