KANSAS CITY, MO. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown men’s basketball team saw its season come to a close on Saturday afternoon as the Jimmies fell 76-65 to Shawnee State in the Elite Eight of the NAIA National Tournament.

Jamestown held a one-point advantage going into the halftime break following big first-half performances from Brock Schrom and Cole Woodford. The Jimmies were able to slow down Shawnee State big man EJ Onu throughout the game, but it was senior James Jones who produced a bulk of the scoring for the Bears in the second half to get past Jamestown.

UJ was led in scoring by Mason Walters who put home 20 points and grabbed six total rebounds. In just his 54th career game, Walters entered the 1,000 point club for the Jimmies on Saturday with a turnaround jumper over Onu. The sophomore becomes the second-fastest player to reach 1,000 points in a Jimmie career behind Brequan Tucker (47 games).

Schrom finished in double figures as well for Jamestown with 11, and Marc Kjos dished out three assists while scoring 10 points. UJ was held to 41% shooting from the field and just 22% from long range. The Jimmies wrap up the season with a 22-9 overall record and the first Elite Eight appearance since the 2003 season.
