CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) There was a warm fuzzy feeling in the air at the City Commission meeting Tuesday as a proposal to purchase 70 acres of land for a new National Guard Facility is close to becoming a reality.
City Administrator David Schelkoph said construction of a new Guard facility could spur economic growth in the area east of John Deere Seeding in Valley City.
The land is owned by “Stan Ryan” and a resolution was passed Tuesday to authorize the city to work with the Valley Development Corporation to purchase the “Ryan” land for a new National Guard Center.
Valley City Barnes County Economic Development Director Jennifer Feist said we look forward to making a presentation soon to the public about this exciting opportunity.
Schelkoph said the new development will take pressure of “Winter Show Road” as a future road will be used by trucks entering and exiting the city from exit 294.
City commissioner Mary Lee Nielson said the idea has been in the development and planning stage since 2009.
