JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Stutsman County State’s Attorney Fritz Fremgen approached the County Commission Tuesday with a proposal for remote attorney services.
Earlier this month, Fremgen informed the commission that he has been operating short-staffed and needed to figure out how to fill open positions.
Fremgen states he was approached by former county attorney Lily Schoenig about his dilemma and offered to provide remote attorney service.
Fremgen says the work he would give to Schoenig would be “by project”, trying to keep hours low so as not to pay over what she would receive if she were a full-time attorney for the county.
He added that all work would be done off-site. He added that they would look to connect her with an e-mail address and laptop to conduct County business.
Commission Chairman Mark Klose thanked Fremgen for thinking outside the box and finding a solution.
Commissioner Ramone Gumke stated this was a good solution, but the county should use this to find a long-term solution.
The agreement for remote attorney services was unanimously approved.
