Linton/Hazelton-Moffitt-Braddock 55 – Ellendale 53

Linton/HMB used a 6-0 run to end the first quarter to take a 16-11 lead, a lead they would not lose, but did have to hold off a late rally by Ellendale to pickup the two point win.

Lucas Schumacher scored 13 of his game high 22 in the first half when the Lions built a 28-22 lead. They would expand that lead to 10 on a couple of occasions in the second half, each time Ellendale would battle back to get to within three or four.

The Cardinals did get back to within two at 51-49 on a 3-pointer by Levi Reis but it wasn’t enough as the Lions won their tenth game in a row. Schumacher also had nine rebounds, two assists and four steals, all team highs. Carter Renz chipped in 15 points and six rebounds.  Trace King added eight points and six boards.

Eric Blondo led Ellendale with 17 points and had seven rebounds. Scott Wagner had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Wyatt Henningson added 11 points.

Linton/HMB, now 19-3 overall, moves on to play LaMoure/Litchville-Marion in the semifinals Tuesday night. Ellendale ends the season 18-5.

Oakes Tornadoes 76 – Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter Imperials 51

It took a quarter to get going, but the Tornadoes, the champions from District 5, ended up easily dispatching of the NGS Imperials in the third game of action.  The Tornadoes took an 8-0 lead, but a quick timeout from the Imperials got them back on track as they scored the next seven points.

After leading by just one point at the end of the first quarter (13-12), the Tornadoes exploded for 26 points in the second quarter to take a 39-30 lead into the half.  Oakes used a balanced scoring attack in the first half, as six different Tornadoes scored, led by senior Steele Hansen with 10 points.

Oakes continued to grow their lead throughout the second half, leading by 17 at the end of the third quarter before ultimately winning by 25.  The seniors were the story of the game for the Tornadoes, as Garret Meehl led all scorers with 20 points and added 11 rebounds, Ashton Biesterfeld had 16 points and 13 rebounds (11 of which were offensive), and Dalton Schmit scored 13 points while shooting 3-6 from three-point land.  Hansen finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.

The Imperials were led by Jaxcen Glatt and Jordan Kuipers, who each scored 11 points.  The Imperials were out-rebounded 42-17 in the game, one of the main reasons for the deficit on the scoreboard.  The offensive rebounds were 26-6 in favor of the Tornadoes.

Oakes moves on to the second semi-final game Tuesday night where they will face the Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier Rebels with action set to begin around 7:30 pm.

Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier Rebels 67 – Kidder County Wolves 55

In a game that ended with a closer score than the game felt, the Rebels took care of business against the Wolves to move on to the semi-finals.  EKM led 16-13 after the first quarter but was able to take a double-digit lead into halftime (34-23) after a buzzer-beating tip from senior Paxton Mathern, and the Rebels never looked back.

The Wolves were able to keep things fairly even through the third quarter, making a few runs, but they were never able to get all the way back.  The Rebels stretched their lead to as many as 19 in the fourth quarter before the benches cleared at the end and the Wolves scored a few baskets to bring the score to the final margin.

Senior Alex Huber scored the first eight points of the game for the Rebels on his way to a game-high 22 points.  Fellow senior Chayse Entzi scored 14 points for the Rebels, and junior Adam Nitschke had 13.  Mathern finished with 10.

Senior Jayden Rath was the only consistent offensive player for the Wolves, finishing with 21 points.  Fellow senior Payton Cauthon finished with eight points while struggling through foul trouble the whole game, and senior Ryan Nicholson had eight as well.

The Rebels move on to the second semi-final game Tuesday night against the Oakes Tornadoes.  That game is scheduled to begin around 7:30 pm.
