JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – An amendment to provide the city of Jamestown with $333,333 in state funding for the ladder truck will be addressed by the Senate when they convene later this week.

The funding comes after request by the City of Jamestown called for assistance from the state when the previous ladder truck failed in 2019. House Bill 1012, the budget appropriations for the North Dakota Department of Health, passed by a vote of 73 to 21.

Jamestown Mayor Dwaine Heinrich.

House Majority Leader Chet Pollert says he’s confident the bill will pass through the Senate.

District 12 Republican Representative Mitch Ostlie gave kudos to Mayor Heinrich for all his work on getting the amendment to this point.

The plan was approved by the Jamestown City Council April 2020 to purchase a $1 million ladder truck after the state-provided ladder truck failed. Original plans called for one-third of the funding come from private donations, one-third from the state, and one-third from tax collections of the city.

In February, the city approved using $300,000 in federal CARES Act funding from the federal government for the ladder truck. Donations and pledges from public and private entities currently sits at around $375,000.
