GRAND FORKS, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Grand Forks Red River scored 42 second half points after a close first half to pull away from Valley City for a 72-59 win in the Play-In game of the Eastern Dakota Conference boys basketball tournament.

The Roughriders led 30-26 at halftime but slowly built the lead up on the way the 13 point win and a spot in the quarterfinals on Tuesday versus top seed and number 1 ranked West Fargo Sheyenne.

The Hi-Liners were led by Peyton Zaun with 17 points and six steals. Derrick Diegel added 11 points. Jared Eggermont led the team with five rebounds and four assists.

Red River was led by Zachary Kraft with 16 points. Paine Parks had 13 points, five rebounds and five assists. Carter Stinson chipped in 11 points and six rebounds. While Carter Byron had nine points and a game high 10 rebounds.

Red River improves to 7-15 on the season. Valley City ends the season 4-17.
