(NewsDakota.com) The Carrington Cardinals High School Volleyball team is off to another strong start this season, they are 6-0. The Cardinals are coming off their best record ever last year at 34-3 and were runner-up in the 2011 Regional Tournament to Midkota.
The Cardinals traveled to the Lakota Tourney and beat Midkota in the championship on August 25th. Brianna Barton set the tone for the first match and the entire day according to Head Coach Sharon Boehmer, she was 19 of 19 serves and many aces against Drayton-St. Thomas. In pool play, they also seen New Rockford and Lakota-Adams/Edmore both from District 7. After pool play, they played District 8 Rolla/Rock Lake in the Tournament semi-final match and then Midkota in the championship. Coach Boehmer said their goal was to get to the championship and possibly have an opportunity to play Midkota. She said it was a battle from beginning to end and she expects it to be a battle every time they step on the court with Midkota.
On August 28th, they traveled to Class A opponent Vally City, and came out with a victory 3-2. (25-14, 25-20, 23-25, 21-25, 15-10) Coach Boehmer said that they were 100% in their attacks and their serves went well. She gives credit to the girls upper body strength for scoring a lot of their points of the serve.
Next up, Carrington will travel to Langdon on Tuesday September 4th. That match can be heard on AM 1600 KDAK in Carrington.
